Stable Steps is an 8-week, equine-assisted psychotherapy program designed specifically to address behavioral, emotional and mental health concerns of at-risk youth. A horse’s size simply commands respect. Horses are animals that intuitively seek a connection from a leader. In return, they offer help in managing stress through acceptance and trust. The horses that are used for our Stable Steps program uniquely reflect the emotions of each participant, which then allows that participant to become aware of their own behaviors and feelings as well as the impact it may have on others. Program curriculum includes therapeutic activities that focus on respect for self and others, healthy boundaries, empathy, vulnerability, choices and consequences, emotion regulation and confidence.

The Stable Steps program name symbolizes the journey that at-risk youth make in restoring stability in their lives. The stables at Rise Canyon Ranch are where those steps are developed. Our staff of licensed psychotherapists and equine specialists strive to provide a safe environment conducive to learning new life skills that can be immediately applied in everyday life.
