EQUINE SPECIALIST

The majestic beauty and power of a horse were obvious even to a three-year old Ashley, her eyes glued to the screen watching the movie, Spirit – something she had done at least a thousand times. What her parents thought was a phase turned into a lifelong passion for horses, which she brings to the work she performs at Rise Canyon Ranch.

Plain and simple, horses were Ashley’s confidants while growing up as she developed her horsemanship and riding skills. Being an only child, horses weren’t just horses, they were friends. When most kids were less than focused on helping others, Ashley was volunteering at an equine therapy center in Cerritos, California when she was in 8th grade. She saw firsthand the healing effect that horses bring to those with physical and mental challenges. Time spent with the horses was time well spent for anyone.

She attributes the kindness and support of her father, not an admitted horse person, as being instrumental in building her confidence and a deep appreciation for family. Spotting her dad running alongside her outside the arena and cheering her on during riding lessons is an image that will always warm her heart.

While in college at Cal Poly Pomona pursuing and attaining her degree in Business Agriculture and a minor in Animal Science, she found comradery and success with the Equestrian Team, and the Dance Team. Performing and winning dance competitions helped her break out of her shell, and travel the country. The horses couldn’t come along, but they approved.

Finding time to volunteer/work at Rise Canyon Ranch may be difficult after working full-time helping her family’s business thrive, but the return on investment is bountiful. Caring for and working diligently to assure the health and wellbeing of the powerful yet gentle horses is an honor. Playing a role in changing people’s lives – a gift.

As time has passed and Ashley returns to the arena of equine therapy she realizes the essence of the human-horse connection, and helping others aligns with her beliefs and values like nothing else. She looks forward to spending as much time as possible with the team at Rise Canyon Ranch as an Eagala Certified Equine Specialist caring for, riding, and training the horses to bring healing to those in need.
